Micheal Bloomberg, with the help of private donations has established charter schools all over New York City. The Schools, in return for funding and better accountability, are granted greater (gasp!) flexibility in what programs they are required to teach. The result are outstanding, with the total number of third graders passing advanced or proficients in New York State reading exams being as high as 92%. This is compared with to 68% percent in the state and 62% in the NYC.
While this is a small step, charter schools are not enough. More competition is needed to
improve a students chance for success. Many Americans understand this idea. In this poll done by the Economist, it is found Republicans support education vouchers by 60%. This should be a breeze to pass in a strongly Republican state right?Wrong, an attempt in Arizona found a school voucher proposal failed when it got to the ballet. If so many support these vouchers, why can't we see them being used in many red states?
This one i am going to blame on the politicians. Republicans, we keep loosing elections because we do not challenge the other side on ideas. School vouchers are not being shown that they can work, but rather the issue is being ignored. The facts are their for anyone to see that competition and accountability work. If you articulate the message well, you can win. When done right, conservatism wins.
Or is this just me?

I'd expect as much, ballerinas never seem to pass any legislation these days.
